Custom Foot Orthotics

Prescription in-shoe orthotics are a type of custom-made support for the foot that is designed to relieve the discomfort of many different types of orthopedic and neurological foot ailments.  A cast molding or foot impression is taken which capture the angular relationships between the various parts of the foot and leg.  Orthotics are constructed of different materials such as various types of plastics (polypropylene), fiberglass, carbon graphite, leather, or medical grade Poron (shock absorbing material).  Their medical value has been proven by long years of use in the podiatric profession and in many cases are an alternative to surgery.

Custom-made orthotics are not similar to off-the-shelf orthotics or anything advertised on television or for purchase on retail sites like Amazon.  Like eyeglasses, they are custom designed for each individual patient who has their own foot type and structure as well as for the particular foot ailment that they are designed to treat.

Amniovant-G Amniotic Cell Therapy via Ultrasound Guidance

Your joints and tendons degrade over time from a range of factors including mechanical overloading, age, and genetics. Dr. Lipkin now offers amniotic cell therapy via ultrasound guidance to cushion, lubricate, and reduce inflammation, allowing you to keep moving.

The procedure for injecting Ascent is very similar to a simple steroid injection. It is quick, easy, and doesn’t require an invasive procedure. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and patients often have minimal to no recovery period.

Laser Treatments for Plantar Warts

Hoboken Ankle and Foot Center offers treatment for severe cases of plantar warts.

There are two types of laser treatments. In CO2 laser treatment, the laser is used to cut and vaporize the wart. In pulsed dye laser treatment a gentle burst of light is used to eliminate the wart, however, multiple treatments may be necessary.

Advanced Laser Treatments for Toenail Fungus

Dr. Lipkin is trained in performing advanced laser treatment for toenail fungus. These treatments are considered safe and have a clinical proven effectiveness rate of 80% or better.  These laser treatments have become an exciting treatment modality to help to eradicate what can be a difficult and unsightly medical condition.

The laser treatment is performed in office, generally within 15 minutes or less. The laser hand piece is placed directly onto the skin or nail, and a few bursts of laster light are emitted to each nail area. Two or three treatments are necessary and are usually performed 2 to 6 weeks apart. Patients may resume normal activity immediately following the procedure. We certainly will review each option with you to determine if you are an appropriate candidate.

Cosmetic Laser Treatments

At Hoboken Ankle & Foot Center we stay on the cutting edge of treatments for certain cosmetic conditions.  Our variety of lasers treat unsightly spider veins (Telangiectasias) and can perform unwanted hair removal from the lower extremity. An office evaluation would be necessary to determine if the patient is a proper candidate for either of these procedures.

Tenex Fasciectomy for Chronic Pain

If you are one of the millions of people suffering from chronic tendon disease known as tendinosis or chronic plantar fascial pain, known as fasciosis, then the Tenex procedure may be the right option for you. The procedure is specifically geared towards patients that have exhausted conservative treatments such as anti-inflammatory medications, rest, ice, cortisone injections and even physical therapy but are not in need of traditional open surgical procedures. If your pain has lasted longer than 3 months then the Tenex Health TX procedure which is considered minimally invasive, can offer the relief from chronic heel pain, Achilles tendon pain, as well as pain from certain other tendons of the foot.

The Tenex Health TX procedure uses ultrasonic energy to precisely remove only diseased or unhealthy tissue without disturbing any healthy tissue. Platelet Therapy PRP/Autologous Conditioned Plasma

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy involves the utilization of the patient’s own platelets to assist in the healing process of chronic injuries such as tendinitis and plantar fasciitis.  The platelets are obtained via a simple blood draw from the patient’s arm and then the blood is spun in a machine called a centrifuge.  The platelets are combined with growth factors and then are re-injected into the area of concern.  These growth factors and platelets help recruit the body’s own natural healing cells to the injured site to optimize the environment for healing.  It is a minimally invasive procedure and is usually done in an outpatient setting.  There is minimal or no “down time” after the procedure is performed.  Please ask the doctor if your condition warrants this treatment.  It has become an extremely popular treatment among athletes, professional and nonprofessional to accelerate the healing process.

Radiofrequency Therapy

Pain can manifest in several areas within the foot, particularly at the heel and near the toes. These occurrences can be the result of injury, as well as changes in anatomy and/or patient lifestyle. Pain in the heel has been the most common complaint, however, many patients report pain near the toes, often due to compression and irritation of the nerves.

RF Therapy uses radiofrequency energy to disrupt nerve function. When this is done to a peripheral nerve, such as that found in the foot, the nerve can no longer transmit pain from the site.

No general anesthetic is used during RF Therapy. However, a local anesthetic with mild sedation will be necessary for the procedure. The doctor will then insert a thin needle near the point of pain. An ultrasound image may or may not be used to position this needle. Once the needle is properly placed the area will be numbed. Radiofrequency energy will then be used to disrupt the problem nerve. This is often performed at more than one location along that nerve to ensure that the pain has been alleviated.

We generally use this treatment modality for resistant cases of heel pain/plantar fasciitis if the standard conservative treatments fail to provide the desired long term relief of this condition.

Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy (EPF)

EPF is one of the procedures used to treat severe strain of the plantar fascia. If this ligament-like band that runs along the bottom of your foot is strained, you’re likely to have pain on the inside of your foot, where the arch and heel meet. Walking and even standing may hurt. Your doctor may suggest EPF if medication and devices to control foot movement have not reduced your symptoms.

Conical Subtalar Implant

Flexible flatfoot deformity is one of the most common deformities of the foot. It typically begins in childhood or adolescence and continues into adulthood. The term “flexible” means the foot is flat when standing (weight-bearing) and the arch height returns when sitting.

Symptoms may include:

  • Pain in the heel, arch and/or ankle
  • “Turned-in” ankle
  • Out-toe
  • General weakness/fatigue in the foot or leg
  • Knee and lower back discomfort

Treatment options will range based on the severity of the deformity. Some cases can be treated with physical therapy, orthotics, and/or corrective shoes. Other cases that are more severe may need to be treated surgically. Several treatments are available and some require the insertion of an implant.

There are many benefits of using the implant. These may include a decrease in both pain and tiring of the legs and feet. You may also be able to return to normal activities for longer periods of time.
